Students in California take a California Physical Fitness Test (PFT) in 5th, 7th, and 9th grade. Palms gives the test to all students (6th, 7th, and 8th grade). For 7th graders, the scores are submitted to the State of California and mailed to parents. Parents of 6th and 8th grade students can look for the scores in their child's Physical Education notebook.
The LAUSD California Physical Fitness Test test evaluates students in multiple areas: push-ups, curl-ups, one-mile run, etc., as well as computing their body mass index (BMI), a measure of body fat based on height and weight. For each measure, the percentage of students reaching their target is determined.
Results of the California Physical Fitness Test given to 7th grade students in Spring 2019 will be available in Summer or Fall 2020 at the California Department of Education website.
The California Physical Fitness Test was not given in 2020 and 2021.
Palms outscored LAUSD averages in all 6 fitness categories, and exceeded California state averages in 4 of the 6 categories.
Both Palms boys and girls topped LAUSD and California averages in Aerobic Capacity, Body Composition, Trunk Extension Strength, and Flexibility, but trailed California averages in Abdominal Strength and Upper Body Strength.
The highest measure in each category is shown in bold.
