Library Information
Hours

The library is open most days before school, at break, at lunch, and after school, but not after school on Tuesdays or Minimum Days.

If students are not picked up by 2:00pm on Tuesdays or 1:00pm on Minimum Days then they will be escorted to the P.E. side, where there is supervision.

Check-outs
Books are checked out for 2 weeks and may be renewed. Some reference books are checked out overnight. Students may check out books at any time during the day.
Library cards
Your picture I.D. is also your library card. It can be used to check out books, but is not required.
Internet access
Supervised Internet access is sometimes available. This privilege depends on proper online behavior and on having a signed Responsible Use Form on file.
Fines
10 cents per school day, not counting absences and non-school days. The book must be checked in first; fines can be paid anytime afterwards. Students must pay the cost of lost books.
Overdue notices
Overdue notices will be emailed to you through Schoology. You can also check your library account for textbooks AND library books by going to “Destiny Library” and “My Info.”
School activities
Each student's library record must be cleared before they can participate in some activities and at the end of each school year.

Bookmark Design Contest

National Reading Month

Palms held a school-wide bookmark design contest. All students were invited to participate.

The contest coincided with National Reading Month (March 2023), which motivates Americans of all ages to read every day. Reading is fun and has many benefits, regardless of your age.

Contest Rules

  • Download the submission form and use it to create an original bookmark design.
  • The design should promote reading, libraries, and/or books, using any art medium (markers, colored pencils, crayons, water colors, oil pastels, digital, etc.)
  • One winner will be chosen for each grade level.
  • Winning entries will be printed on full-color bookmarks and distributed in the Library throughout the year.
  • Each winner will receive a gift card from Barnes & Noble Bookstore and printed copies of their bookmark to share with family and friends.
  • The contest deadline is Thursday, March 30, 2023.

Fundraising for New Computers

Piggy bank

In 2015, Friends of Palms ran a success fundraising campaign on the Indegogo website:

New Computers For Palms Middle School Library

The goal was to raise $20,437 to replace the aging computers in the Library, which students use for their research projects. The goal was met and exceeded, and the Library now has up-to-date computers. The extra funds were used for the Video Production elective.
