Band
Band is for students who already know how to play a wind or percussion instrument. See the list of instruments on the Winds & Percussion page.
Students (even 6th graders) may take Band once they have demonstrated to Ms. Jones that they are ready, either in class or by an audition.
Band has two class periods, named Blue Band and Gold Band. Both bands give performances throughout the school year. See the School Calendar and the Concerts page.
Each year on College Day in November, former music director, Ms. West, had the tradition of leading her advanced band students around campus to treat Palms students and staff to a rousing version of the UCLA Fight Song, in honor of her beloved alma mater.
Ms. Jones, Instrumental Music
In February 2016, two Palms band members, Alex Lui and Jasper Timmermans, were accepted into the California All-State Honor Band by the California Band Directors Assocation.
They were selected from a pool of over 1,700 applicants throughout the state after submitting their audition recordings.
Alex plays tenor saxophone and Jasper plays trumpet.
Congratulations to Alex and Jasper!
Which do you play the longest: a quarter note, a half note, or a whole note?
