Ethnic Studies

Following the Ethnic Studies curriculum established by the California Department of Education, this elective focuses on the histories, cultures, struggles, and contributions to American society of four historically marginalized communities:

  • African American
  • Chicana/o/x and Latina/o/x
  • Native American
  • Asian American and Pacific Islander

In order to make connections to the experiences of all students, themes may include:

  • identity
  • history and movement
  • systems of power
  • social movements and equity

For Fall 2024, students will develop an understanding and appreciation of the roles, challenges, and contributions of African Americans to the growth and development of the United States. The course is an interactive experience of research/inquiry, discovery, discussion, analysis, writing, presentation, assessment, etc.

Ethnic Studies is a one-semester Fall course. Students will be assigned another elective for the Spring semester.
