College Dual Enrollment Program

Los Angeles Southwest College

Palms 8th graders can take a college course at Los Angeles Southwest College (LASC) while still attending Palms, as part of LASC's Dual Enrollment Program. Participants earn college credit.

Sign-ups are first-come-first-served. If you are interested in attending for Fall 2024 or Spring 2025, talk to Ms. Arevalo, the Palms College and Career Counseling Coordinator.

Schedule - Fall 2023

Counseling 040: College Success Seminar

  • August 28 to December 17, 2023
  • Monday and Wednesday, 3:10 to 4:5pm
  • On the Palms campus

Students review reading skills and strategies necessary for college success, including reading for main ideas, determining organizational patterns of details presented, and drawing logical conclusions in paragraphs and short essays.

Readings and vocabulary study are in the 9th to 11th-grade range. Students are introduced to more critical reading skills (determining the author’s purpose, tone, point of view, and intended audience) and literary concepts (interpreting figures of speech, characterization, plot, setting, and theme).

Students must attend the entire course.

Waiting List and Cancellations

For 2023-2024, the class had reached capacity as of May 2023.

If you sign up but are no longer interested in attending, let Ms. Arevalo know so she can free up the spot for someone on the Waiting List.
