The LAUSD Magnet Program

The LAUSD Magnet program is a voluntary integration program. From kindergarten through 12th grade, Magnet students pursue academic interests in special environments for learning. Each Magnet school offers a subject specialty or special teaching approaches. Magnet students are selected randomly by computer based on LAUSD and court-approved guidelines, ethnic balance, and available space in each program.

Transportation is provided to Magnet students outside of a 5-mile radius from Palms. See Magnet Transportation ^.

The CHOICES application is used to apply to the Magnet Program.

Magnet enrollment is controlled by the LAUSD Office of Student Integration Services. Further information can be found at the LAUSD Magnet Program website.

Consider attending the annual Choices Fair, where LAUSD invites parents to learn about magnet schools and the magnet program.

Spanish World Language Immersion Program

The Spanish World Language Immersion Program is not a Magnet program, although applications for the program uses the same Choices system as Magnet schools.

Magnet Previews, Fall 2024

Magnet Previews, to be held in Fall 2024, are for families that are considering Palms Middle School for their child for the 2025-2026 school year. Parents and guardians are invited to attend, and they may bring their child with them.

Each event will start with a 30-minute information session about the school’s various programs. Then, families will tour the campus and visit select classrooms to see teachers and students in action.
