Palms Choral Program

Choir is a year-long performance class that offers training in the basics of good choral singing and basic musicianship.  Students learn and perform a varied repertoire throughout the year that includes songs in different styles and languages, representing different historical periods.   In addition to the enjoyment of making music together, they learn how to sing with proper vocal technique and how to read music.

Choir teaches students the importance and necessity of unity and teamwork.  Together they  experience the satisfaction of achieving improvement/excellence over time through hard work and discipline.  Choral students become sharper listeners, better audience members, and develop an increased appreciation for music.

All choral classes gain experience in unison and in two-part singing.  The Advanced Choir also does 3-part or 4-part singing.  Every choral student gets the experience of singing harmony, as well as melody, during the school year.  Some opportunities for solos are provided, especially for Advanced Choir.

Any student may be in Choir – no audition is required.  7th and 8th grade students who have already taken one year of Choir at Palms Middle School are eligible for Advanced Choir.
