Award-winning author/illustrator Jason Chin was our guest on Thursday, January 13, 2011.
His book Redwoods, an ALA notable book, was presented the Los Angeles Public Library Focal Award on Saturday January 15, an event for which Several Palms art students created the centerpieces.
The annual Focal Award is given to a children's book, grades 3-8, with California content.
Mr. Chin met with several of our classes in the Library. He read, answered questions about redwood trees, presented artwork, and talked about the illustration process. Some parents attended too.
The Los Angeles Public Library's Summer With the Library reading contest is from June 6 to August 6, 2022.
Register online or in person, earn badges for reading and for completing fun activities. With enough badges, you might win a contest!

The Library Garden is a patio on the side of the Library. Shady trees and covered tables make it the perfect place for relaxing get-togethers and other events, including Visitors Days and the Volunteer Celebration.
