Young-adult fiction author Sandra L. Rostirolla visited Palms to talk to English students about her book "Making Friends With Monsters."
Ms. Rostirolla shared how she overcame some intense childhood tragedies and discussed her writing process and the importance of bringing humor into your life, no matter what you are going through.

Author/Illustrator Jason Chin Visits Palms
Award-winning author/illustrator Jason Chin was our guest on Thursday, January 13, 2011.
His book Redwoods, an ALA notable book, was presented the Los Angeles Public Library Focal Award on Saturday January 15, an event for which Several Palms art students created the centerpieces.
The annual Focal Award is given to a children's book, grades 3-8, with California content.
Mr. Chin met with several of our classes in the Library. He read, answered questions about redwood trees, presented artwork, and talked about the illustration process. Some parents attended too.
